Prof David Kilpatrick in Australia

Professor David Kilpatrick is speaking in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney in July as a guest of SoTLA (Science of Teaching and Learning Australia). His presentation is titled: Understanding Word-Level Reading Problems: Implications For Instruction And Intervention. This presentation will focus on how children learn to read words and why some children struggle. The goal of the presentation is to establish a knowledge base for educators about the nature and components of word-level reading and the causes of reading disabilities. This knowledge base should assist educators with implementing the most effective instructional and intervention practices. David is professor emeritus of psychology for the State University of New York College at Cortland. He is a New York State certified school psychologist with 28 years experience in schools. He has been teaching courses in learning disabilities and educational psychology since 1994 and is the author of several influential books which provide evidence-based strategies for improving reading outcomes for struggling readers. David currently conducts research on reading difficulties and does professional development workshops for educators. Professor David Kilpatrick's work has been influential in shaping literacy instruction practices and providing insights into the nature of reading difficulties, particularly for individuals who struggle with reading. His research and writings have contributed to the understanding of effective reading instruction, assessment, and intervention, and he is widely regarded as an expert in the field of literacy education.
